I've been really thinking about the concept of privilege. For myself personally, what does it mean to be privileged? Being privileged means I have led a very sheltered life until I came here. Being privileged means I didn't ask for the lifestyle I have but it just happened, and this experience has opened my eyes to the privilege I have of being able to have lived where I live (in Connecticut) and having the opportunities I've had such as finishing my secondary education AND being able to go on to complete some form of higher education. Being privileged means I have always had food on my plate, I have two healthy parents and three healthy siblings, and a home with running water, electricity, and 4 walls and a roof. Ignorance is bliss, until you begin to understand see things as you had never before…and for me realizing my privilege is something I can't ignore. The ignorance is no longer blissful, and I'm almost confused by my privilege. But because I'm gaining a greater understanding of my fortune, I need to use the opportunities that have come from this privilege to do good in the world and try to help those who cannot do so themselves
