WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in this program will attest, there are no words or pictures that can begin to adequately capture the beauty of the scenery or hospitality of the people in Cape Town. Therefore, this blog is merely intended to provide an overview of the program and a glimpse at some amazing adventures and life-changing experiences had by the students and staff of this program who have traveled together as co-educators and companions on the journey. As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor since 2008 it has been a privilege and honor to accompany an incredible variety of wonderful UConn students to a place we have all come to know and love.

In peace, with hope, Marita McComiskey, PhD

Morgan loves music

I love music. I mean there are lots of things I enjoy but music is a truly important part of my life. I feel like music is something that makes moments even greater. Yesterday I spent the day with my boss, Sister Castle, her husband, two daughters, granddaughter, as well as my two friends and co-educators, Kelsey and Savitri. At the end of an amazing day spent in each other’s company, the song ‘Game of Love’ by Michelle Branch and Carlos Santana came on. I hope if you’re reading this you know what song I’m talking about because it is SO positive and so uplifting and it was the perfect ending to the day. South Africa is strung together by so many beautiful songs. The music brings together communities at their churches here, and brings together friends hanging out on the street. The jazz here is something I’ve never heard before, and the notes make a person move until the music stops. I can’t think of anything more inexplicably beautiful than music.
