Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in this program will attest, there are no words or pictures that can begin to adequately capture the beauty of the scenery or hospitality of the people in Cape Town. Therefore, this blog is merely intended to provide an overview of the program and a glimpse at some amazing adventures and life-changing experiences had by the students and staff of this program who have traveled together as co-educators and companions on the journey. As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor since 2008 it has been a privilege and honor to accompany an incredible variety of wonderful UConn students to a place we have all come to know and love.

In peace, with hope, Marita McComiskey, PhD

JR incredibly overwhelmed

My initial reaction to hearing I got into the study abroad program in South Africa was one of overwhelming joy and satisfaction.  After having been to the symposium I had been looking forward to hearing back on my application, aggressively checking my email in the days leading up to hearing.  I could not believe that I was lucky enough to have been chosen to partake in this wonderful opportunity, an opportunity that has the potential to change my life.  I loved being able to call my mother and tell her I made it into the program, she's been so supportive of me throughout my life, and was encouraging me to enter the study abroad program, and being able to tell her that I was accepted was incredibly overwhelming.  Hearing news of this magnitude definitely led to a wide range of emotions, most of them were feelings of great pride and happiness.
