WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in this program will attest, there are no words or pictures that can begin to adequately capture the beauty of the scenery or hospitality of the people in Cape Town. Therefore, this blog is merely intended to provide an overview of the program and a glimpse at some amazing adventures and life-changing experiences had by the students and staff of this program who have traveled together as co-educators and companions on the journey. As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor since 2008 it has been a privilege and honor to accompany an incredible variety of wonderful UConn students to a place we have all come to know and love.

In peace, with hope, Marita McComiskey, PhD

Avery on feelings of extreme happiness & slight apprehension

Studying abroad never seemed like such a big step until I started to prepare to take it. Everything had to be planned flawlessly- everything from the timing of the application papers, the passport numbers I had my mother read to me over the phone and check 4 times, the outfit I picked out a week in advance for the interview...the list goes on. It is seldom that I go into anything unprepared- however I felt although as I sat down at my interview that everything I had dried up like a ball of cotton in my mouth. That was when I realized how important the program was to me and how much I wanted to be accepted. In that moment it seemed impossible that I could prove to two almost complete strangers why I was a candidate worthy of being accepted. I don't remember if it was after that when my nerves calmed down and my heart returned to a normal pace that I was suddenly able to speak much more candidly to my interviewers. We spoke about  internship opportunities and what I could be doing abroad. Needless to say- I am thrilled. I am excited, nervous, scared, enthralled, ecstatic and any other emotion associated with extreme happiness and slight apprehension.I feel that the individuals who have been selected for this trip are all extremely talented and are headed into the world to do great things. I am excited to be apart of a momentum that inspires change  and a community effort abroad. With that said, Cape Town 2013 here we come!!!
