Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in this program will attest, there are no words or pictures that can begin to adequately capture the beauty of the scenery or hospitality of the people in Cape Town. Therefore, this blog is merely intended to provide an overview of the program and a glimpse at some amazing adventures and life-changing experiences had by the students and staff of this program who have traveled together as co-educators and companions on the journey. As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor since 2008 it has been a privilege and honor to accompany an incredible variety of wonderful UConn students to a place we have all come to know and love.

In peace, with hope, Marita McComiskey, PhD

Ethan can now begin counting down the days

I always knew I wanted to study abroad, however the “Where” was always a tricky question. I constantly debated over Europe or Asia, South America or Australia. However, I could not be more excited to be going to Cape Town, South Africa for the 2013 spring semester. I have always dreamt about working with the Peace Corps and other NGOs and I know that this experience will provide me a one of a kind internship in a field which I have so much interest. This excitement toward the program only increased after the symposium and study abroad fair.

When I first received notice of my acceptance I was excited, however I had to make sure I didn't invest too much emotion into my acceptance. I still had a lot to figure out, and was still unsure if I was able to go. This all changed yesterday on Oct 12th when I officially confirmed and decided I am going off to Africa in three short months. Therefore though my excitement came a little late, I am now counting down the days. I can’t wait to meet all my housemates, and start preparing for a trip across the world!
