After beginning my
internship this week, things are becoming much more real. Finally having aset schedule to follow is making Cape Town seem less
like a vacation spot and more like my new home for the semester. I’m loving
this change; as much as I enjoyed every trip we took during orientation, I’m
starting to feel like I’m not a tourist anymore (even though I still don’t
really know where anything is). I’m also getting better at using the mini bus taxis
which has definitely made me feel more like a Capetonian, although I have
already had some interesting experiences (I know how to get to Parow now).
As for my internship, itself, I am very excited for
what’s to come this semester. So far we have only begun to catch up on all the
laws and programs of South Africa and I’m soaking it all up. I can’t wait to be
able to use the knowledge that I gain here to really try to make a difference
(big or small). I also feel like I’m learning so much from other people’s
internships as well. Hopefully we can all pool our knowledge to make one
well-rounded and better informed group of students.
