WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in this program will attest, there are no words or pictures that can begin to adequately capture the beauty of the scenery or hospitality of the people in Cape Town. Therefore, this blog is merely intended to provide an overview of the program and a glimpse at some amazing adventures and life-changing experiences had by the students and staff of this program who have traveled together as co-educators and companions on the journey. As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor since 2008 it has been a privilege and honor to accompany an incredible variety of wonderful UConn students to a place we have all come to know and love.

In peace, with hope, Marita McComiskey, PhD

Morgan celebrating life

Life is a Celebration

When I am walking down the street,
Marching to a different beat,
Hop on a bus and take a seat,
I start to sweat and feel the heat-

Of the sun, of moments so fun,
And all those times I didn’t run...

And then I began to ponder,
How I need a life filled with wonder,

Where my job makes me think,
I read books filled with ink,
I have time for a drink,
And my hours don’t stink.

Is it fair for me to create these silly stipulations?
Should I care to give in to my culture’s manipulations?

So now I’m twenty and facing life’s questions,
Like what do I value, what types of lessons?

I care about love, family, friendships, and learning,
But I need to discover more, I have a constant yearning.

Now I may not be sure of my next steps,
But I know who I am and the memories I’ve kept,

I must always laugh and share and dance and sing,
And celebrate this life – the most precious thing.
