Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in this program will attest, there are no words or pictures that can begin to adequately capture the beauty of the scenery or hospitality of the people in Cape Town. Therefore, this blog is merely intended to provide an overview of the program and a glimpse at some amazing adventures and life-changing experiences had by the students and staff of this program who have traveled together as co-educators and companions on the journey. As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor since 2008 it has been a privilege and honor to accompany an incredible variety of wonderful UConn students to a place we have all come to know and love.

In peace, with hope, Marita McComiskey, PhD

Carl's been eagerly awaiting this experience

I am just as excited about going to Cape Town now as I was the first time my RA from freshman year told me about his experience there. Once he told me about his internship, classes, and all of the life changing experiences he had while he was there my heart was set on going to Cape Town; there was no question about it, I hardly looked into any other study abroad programs. Throughout the past summer I made weekly visits to the study abroad website to see if I could start the application process yet, and as soon as I could click the “apply” button, I did. Now that I have been accepted into the program my mind is blown with excitement, anticipation, anxiety, satisfaction and even more curiosity about what it will be like. I can not wait to be on the plane in three short months.

A city that has such a historic past and filled with so much stuff to do, I do not  know how I will fit everything I want to learn and do into the few months that we will be there. But none the less, I am hoping to get most out of this experience as I possibly can. This will definitely an experience of a life time.
