WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in this program will attest, there are no words or pictures that can begin to adequately capture the beauty of the scenery or hospitality of the people in Cape Town. Therefore, this blog is merely intended to provide an overview of the program and a glimpse at some amazing adventures and life-changing experiences had by the students and staff of this program who have traveled together as co-educators and companions on the journey. As Resident Director and Faculty Advisor since 2008 it has been a privilege and honor to accompany an incredible variety of wonderful UConn students to a place we have all come to know and love.

In peace, with hope, Marita McComiskey, PhD

JR on his amazing co-educators

My blog post might be really sappy, but I really want to talk about the amazing group of students on this trip with me.  I feel like every day I learn something new about someone that gives me a new perspective on them as human beings, the decisions they make, and so on. I think I (and I’m sure many others), have an issue with developing an immediate opinion about a person from even a 2 second conversation.  This trip and the people here have really helped me to not always judge a book by its cover, something I definitely could use a lesson in.  And so many of the people on this trip have so much that I can learn from, constantly changing the way I think about the world, as well as about my time here.  I feel so lucky to have been able to meet all these people on this trip, and it’s amazing how close we’ve gotten over just a month.  I have so much to learn from everyone on this trip, yet so little time, but I do feel honored and privileged to share such an incredible experience with 28 other incredible human beings.
